RECORDING OBSERVATIONS OF FISH IN THE AMAZON
Ictio is an application and a database on Amazonian migratory fish, collaboratively built with local and indigenous populations, individual fishermen, management groups, associations and scientists.
Developed by the Cornell Ornithology Laboratory in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society and the project partners, the database and the free application for mobile devices allow users to register and share their fish observations.
We seek to understand how fish migrations work in the Amazon basin and what environmental factors influence these migrations.
In combination with the citizen science approach, this fills in information gaps for conservation in the Amazon, drastically reduces the cost of gathering this information and empowers citizens as guardians of aquatic ecosystems.

Users can view and share their data, as well as keep track of the species they capture over time. With all this information generated at scale, we will deepen our understanding of the migration patterns of flagship fish species in the Amazon.
Ictio app: the application is freely available on Google Play for Android devices (minimum version 5.0) and does not require an Internet connection to work. Users will be able to see and share their data, as well as keep track of the species they capture over time.
Data upload tool: in addition to the Ictio app, you can upload data to Ictio.org using the data upload tool available on the web page.
Acceso a los datos: a basic dataset will be available quarterly online at ictio.org. The project partners will have access to an extended database and the observers themselves will have access to their complete dataset. Visit Ictio.org to learn more.
